The level of education you have can make a world of difference in the type of life you live. How is the Georgia GED Formatted?
The test is divided into five parts: reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. These are subjects taught in high schools throughout North America. Since the GED is a high school diploma equivalent, it is important that the people who receive them are educated in the topics high school students study.
The tests are mainly multiple-choice questions with five possible answers each. However, you are required to write an essay for the writing portion of the exam. In total, there are about 240 questions and you will have 7.5 hours to complete the test.
What is the Minimum Passing Score for the GA GED?
Georgia scores their GED tests differently than other states. You must score an average of 450 or more per test to pass the exam. However, they have a tiered scoring system that determines when you are able to retake the portions of the exam that you fail:
- You can retake the test at any time if you score 430 or above
- You must wait 90 days to retake the test if you score between 400 and 429
- You must wait 180 days to retake the test or complete remedial training if you score below 400
Georgia also requires you to retake the test at your original testing center. If you want to take the exam at a different facility, you must get a signed release from the chief examiner from the original facility.
Eligibility Requirements for the Georgia GED Exam
Eligibility requirements can change at any time. Therefore, it is best to connect with the Technical System of Georgia website or a local GED testing center for up-to-date information. Here are the basic qualifications that must be met to take the GED test:
- The minimum age is 16, but people aged 16-19 must obtain preapproval
- You cannot have graduated from an accredited high school or obtain an equivalent recognized diploma
- Cannot be currently enrolled in a K-12 school
- There are currently no residency requirement
How to Register for the Georgia GED Exam
To register for the Georgia GED exam, you must submit an application to your local GED exam facility. You will be required to present a driver’s license, state ID, military ID, or passport proving your age. It costs $95 to take the entire test and $19 to retake individual portions of the exam. This fee must be paid when you register.
Preparing for the GA GED Test
You have two choices when it comes to preparing for the Georgia GED exam: self-study and preparatory courses. Prep courses basically review the material that is likely to be on the test. You can find these courses at adult learning centers, community colleges and online. Independent study can be done using GED study guides. This option is great for people who want to review the material at their own pace. You can delve deep into topics you don’t know well and skip the ones you do.
